Why Choose Robotic Cataract Surgery?

When it comes to your vision, you deserve the most advanced care possible. Robotic laser cataract surgery with the ALLY Robotic Cataract Laser System combines unparalleled precision with proven results, treating your cataracts while maximizing your visual potential in a single procedure. It’s the difference between settling for standard care and choosing the cutting edge of modern eye surgery.

What are Cataracts?

A cataract is a clouding of your eye’s natural lens, which sits behind the iris and pupil. When cataracts form, light can’t pass through clearly anymore, making your vision blurry, hazy, or dim.

Cataracts are incredibly common, especially as you age. In fact, most people will develop cataracts if they live long enough. They typically develop slowly over years, gradually affecting your ability to read, drive, recognize faces, or enjoy activities you love.

Cataracts are highly treatable, and modern cataract surgery is one of the safest and most successful procedures performed today.

What Is Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery?

Laser-assisted cataract surgery uses advanced robotic laser technology to perform key steps of your cataract procedure with incredible precision. Instead of relying solely on handheld instruments, your surgeon uses a sophisticated laser system to create incisions, break up the clouded lens, and prepare your eye for the new artificial lens.

This computer-guided approach allows for a level of accuracy that’s difficult to achieve with traditional methods alone. The laser is programmed with detailed 3D imaging of your eye, ensuring each step is customized to your unique anatomy. The result is a gentler, more precise procedure that can lead to better visual outcomes and faster recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cataract Surgery

The actual procedure typically takes about 15-20 minutes per eye. However, you should plan to spend a few hours at the surgical center for pre-operative preparation and post-operative monitoring. Most patients are surprised by how quick and comfortable the experience is.

Many patients notice improved vision within 24 hours, though it can take a few days to a few weeks for your vision to fully stabilize. You’ll have follow-up appointments so your doctor can monitor your healing and ensure you’re getting the best possible results.

It depends on the type of lens implant you choose and your vision goals. Some advanced lens options can reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses for most activities. During your consultation, we’ll discuss which lens options are best suited to your lifestyle and visual needs.

Cataract surgery may be performed using standard (manual) techniques or robotic-assisted technology. Standard surgery removes the cloudy lens to restore clarity but does not correct astigmatism. Robotic-assisted surgery uses computer-guided laser technology to improve precision and allows astigmatism correction when appropriate. The surgeon remains in full control at all times.

Astigmatism can cause blurry or distorted vision. If it is not corrected during cataract surgery, many patients will still need glasses afterward. Astigmatism can be corrected using laser-guided treatment during robotic-assisted cataract surgery. In moderate to more advanced cases, correction may also involve a special lens implant called a toric lens. Correcting astigmatism may help reduce dependence on glasses for everyday activities.

Astigmatism correction is considered an elective service and may not be covered by insurance. Any potential out-of-pocket costs are reviewed with you before surgery.

LensAR® uses detailed imaging to create a 3-D map of the eye, helping guide precise laser treatment to improve clarity and correct astigmatism when selected.

Many patients are candidates, but not everyone needs robotic assistance. Your surgeon will determine the best option based on your eyes and vision goals.

Our surgeons were among the first in Southern Arizona to adopt robotic-assisted cataract surgery and have performed thousands of procedures since 2012.

Collectively, our active practicing physicians have performed more than 60,000 cataract procedures.
